Muscular Dystrophy Center of Kavre is located 16 miles east of Kathmandu, Nepal. The Center is about 5 minutes walk from Scheer Memorial Hospital, in a cozy little house in the middle of peaceful rice fields. It is overseen by the Board of Directors from the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Nepal, MDAN, and is funded by generous sponsors and donors from around the world. We currently have four residents. Assisting our residents are a full time caregiver, a tutor, a part-time volunteer physiotherapist, as well as many other volunteers who are dedicated helpers. There is only one other center like this that we know of in all Nepal, that provides 24 hour care. Based on clinical records from the nearby hospitals there are perhaps 50 or more boys with muscular dystrophy in the district. Our boys all have advanced MD and require assistance with most activities of daily life. We hope to grow and provide a center that can serve all the boys and their families that require such a care facility in the future.
